Calling all young Houston hockey players and young women looking to get into the sports industry! Lace up your skates and get ready to score for your future with the Houston Slapshot Scholarship, proudly presented by Hockey Day in Houston and the Hockey Players in Business (HPIB) Houston Chapter.

For 2025, Hockey Day in Houston (www.hockeydayinhouston.com ) has partnered with The Howe Foundation (www.howefoundation.com ), in honor of Mr. Hockey^®, Gordie Howe, and Mrs. Hockey^®, Colleen Howe.

This year’s Houston Slapshot Scholarship will honor the mission of The Howe Foundation towards its scholarship.

The Howe Foundation is dedicated to sharing the life-long passion for sports with everyone,focusing on two core missions:

Kids First: Guided by the legacy of Mr. Hockey^®, Gordie Howe, the Howe Foundation strives to help kids participate in sports, from taking their first skates or kicks to competing internationally and attending top-tier schools—regardless of whether they pursue a professional path.

Women in the Business of Sports: In honor of Mrs. Hockey^®, Colleen Howe, the Foundation empowers women to advance in the sports industry through education, experience, and a supportive network, fostering growth and leadership.

The Howe Foundation believes that sports and the business of sports can shape lives and inspire generations, helping all involved carry forward values that endure.

Slapshot Scholarship Qualifications:

Current high school senior or current college student scheduled to graduate after the fall semester of 2025

Current Houston-area hockey player OR female committed to pursuing a career in sports

Academic excellence, community involvement, and financial need

Application must be completed and submitted by Sunday, February 16, 2025, via email

We know hockey isn't just about slapshots and face-offs! It's about discipline, teamwork, and dedication – qualities that translate to excellence in the classroom and beyond. Whether you're a rising high school senior or a current college student, if you're a passionate Houston-area hockey player or a female committed to pursuing a career in the sports industry seeking a post-secondary education, this scholarship is for you.

Beyond the rink, onto the podium: We believe every young athlete deserves the chance to chase their academic dreams. The Hockey Day in Houston and Hockey Players in Business, Houston Chapter’s scholarship program will award up to $1,509 to outstanding applicants who exemplify:

Academic excellence: Show us your hard work and dedication in the classroom.

Community involvement: Let us see your passion for making a difference in the community. (Please note if it involves the hockey community)

Financial need: Demonstrate how this scholarship will make a significant impact on your educational journey.
